Investment in grid-scale BESS in Sapporo City, Hokkaido

  • Battery Capacity: 50 MW / 100 MWh

  • Investment: November 24, 2022

  • Operation Start: November 2025

In collaboration with Fuyo General Lease Co., Ltd. and ASTMAX Co., Ltd., we established DAX, LLC and installed a grid-scale BESS (50 MW / 100 MWh). It began participating in transactions in the wholesale electricity and capacity markets on November 1, 2025, based on AI-driven forecasts.

Investment Highlights

A notable feature of this facility is its early achievement of commercial operation as an extra-high-voltage battery installation. With more participants expected to enter the market and price competition intensifying, particularly in the supply-demand adjustment market, the facility is well positioned to engage in market activities at an early stage. Participation in the supply-demand adjustment market is scheduled to begin in January 2026.

The project received a subsidy of 2.5 billion JPY from a Japanese government program supporting the deployment and expansion of distributed energy resources.

As the global movement toward carbon neutrality accelerates, the demand for renewable energy continues to rise. We aim to contribute to Japan's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through the development and operation of large grid-scale BESS, which help mitigate the variability of renewable energy sources.

Future Actions

In line with the Daiwa Securities Group's "2030Vision" initiative, we will continue to actively expand our investments in the grid-scale battery sector to advance a carbon-neutral and resilient society.
